SMALL BITE: The Statehouse is the upscale, fine-dining option at The Edgewater in Madison, Wisconsin. The modern American cuisine, with a Midwestern twist, is matched only by the expansive view of Lake Mendota. Every teal velvet-covered chair in the restaurant is a front-row seat to the incredible lake view.

SIGNATURE DISHES: Porta Fries, baked and breaded in flour, egg and panko bread crumbs, then deep fried and served with a house-made horseradish aioli. Brussels Sprouts with shaved pancetta, roasted in the oven and finished with a chestnut-shallot dressing. Oven-Roasted Half Chicken served with bite-sized, multi-colored potatoes, Cipollini onions and roasted vegetables, and topped with a white-wine chicken jus reduction.

DISH FROM DINERS: “We went to The Statehouse for our anniversary. It couldn’t have been better. Service was respectful, quick and spot-on. Food was excellent! Flavors were simple, but delicious.” And this from another diner: “We’ve been here many times already for dinner and we highly recommend the Lobster Rolls! YUM! Calamari was nicely flavored and fried. Great view and tasty food — what more could you ask for?”

ABOUT THE EDGEWATER:  Although looking shiny and sparkling new from its 2014 renovation, The Edgewater has actually been a mainstay in Madison since 1948. Many celebrities have rested their heads on Edgewater’s pillows, including Elvis Presley, Elton John, Bob Hope, Bob Marley and the Dali Lami. The resort, which overlooks Lake Mendota, offers 202 guest rooms, an outdoor plaza and pier, several restaurants and lounges–The Statehouse, The Boathouse, The Icehouse and The Café— a luxurious spa, and large, comfortable rooms for meetings, events and weddings. Guests will appreciate how close it is to Capitol Square, UW Madison (Go, Badgers!) and the dynamic hum of State Street. A centerpiece of the renovation is The Plaza, a public area overlooking the lake where you can relax in the sun during the warmer months, or strap on some ice skates in the winter, when it is transformed into a public outdoor skating rink.
