Let’s meat–and fish–at Ground Round! (Neenah, Wisconsin)

SMALL BITE: Ground Round is the official hotel restaurant at the Bridgewood Resort Hotel & Conference Center in Neenah, Wisconsin. This particular venue, coming up on its 13-year anniversary,  is owned by two longtime friends who attended Neenah High School together, and they have brought that friendly, community spirit with them to the restaurant. VERY family-oriented, and the chef and his staff are extremely conscientious about creating great food that pleases customers.

SIGNATURE DISH: Honestly, there isn’t one dish that stands out because there are too many outstanding classics: Garlic Pizza, Florentine Pasta, Steaks and Burgers made to order, Salmon, Specialty Sandwiches and Tex Mex specials. The chef changes menus seasonally, so he works with the freshest ingredients from local producers. Oh, you MUST try the Homemade Pretzels and Queso Dip!

DISH FROM DINERS: We have been going to the Ground Round since they opened.  We live about five minutes away, so it’s safe to say we’ve been there about 15 times.  Hands down, the best bar and grill in Neenah, and the greater Fox Valley for that matter! Their Traditional Club Sandwich is delicious — the best in the Valley. Also, they have fantastic specials for each day of the week, including buy one burger get one free. Service has always been great!” AND: “Big fan of the bloodies, craft beer chasers and happy hour specials. I’ve never had a bad experience here and find the staff enjoyable to talk with. Food-wise, the Friday perch brings me back, the XYL enjoys the Tangler Salad and Southwest Salad. Cheers!” AND: “Best outdoor patio, love the setting, good food and good service keep us going back! Kids love to play mini put after eating too! Great spot for families!”

FOOD FOR THOUGHT: The Ground Round bar is known locally for being Party Central, playing host to a host of celebrations: Packer Parties, Draft parties, Halloween galas and New Year’s Eve gatherings. The restaurant is renowned for having one of the best fish fries in the Fox Valley, with all-you-can-eat haddock and perch. They re also known for their Old-Fashioned cocktails.  And you can pretty much catch a special nearly every night of the week — which bodes well with the family budget.  We ARE families,” says Matt Palmer, Assistant General Manager of the restaurant. For instance, on Tuesday, it’s BOGO Burger (Buy One Get One Free); on Wednesdays, it’s All-You-Can-Eat Ribs; and on Sundays, Kids Eat Free!  Bar specials include dollar-off Boomer beers and $1.99-$2.99 margaritas.

ABOUT BRIDGEWOOD RESORT HOTEL & CONFERENCE CENTER:  This property is a very special one in so many ways. Yes, it is part of the Best Western hotel chain, but it is not your typical Best Western. There are less than 30 Best Western PREMIER Hotels in North America out of over 2,200, and this property is one of them!  Rising like a Phoenix off the interstate, you know you have come to a special place the minute you turn into the resort. The beautiful and verdant nine-hole Bridgewood Golf Course wraps around the hotel and restaurant, providing a scenic backdrop to patio dining and views from many of the hotel rooms. Several of the rooms offer a special treat — a  jacuzzi tub for guests who want a luxurious, relaxing soak after a long day playing golf or platform tennis on the property’s two fenced-in courts, where hotel guests and members of the Bridgewood Platform Tennis Club come to play — even in winter! The resort also features a miniature golf course that provides the perfect family-friendly outdoor recreation. Guests who stay during warmer months will love the specialty ice cream shack out on the green, as well. Patio dining features fire pits to help diners stay warm during cool summer evenings and in the winter, where they can enjoy a drink before dinner or just hang out afterward.
